carburater issues

Postby forgot99 » Wed Jul 07, 2010 5:43 am

I am having some trouble with my carb its an Eldlebrock performance series. It starts and idles the issue is when I try to drive it. I can start off alright in first but when I start to speed up and get to second it just starts to pop and it can cause the whole truck to shake. when I try and apply more gas peddle the whole thing just bogs down and will not go any where. It only does it in two and four high if I drive around in for low it's just fine.

The carb has been on there a while and I was thinking about switching to a truck avenger but they want $400 for one of those. I was wondering if any one has some experience rebuilding or fixing the Eldlebrock.

I put it out there last year if any one is down in the Homer area look me up cell 906-370-9384. If I am in town it would be nice to meat some of you guys.

Thanks
Mike

Could be a vacuum leak. It dies when you accelerate, right? Check around to see if you have a missing cap of a cracked vacuum hose. Just a thought before you sink money into a new carb.

I will take a look at the vaume lines it would be nice to figure this thing out before spending the money. It starts to pop when shifting from first to secund as well as when I stop at the end of my road and try to take off again. When I try to apply more gas hoping it will stop it just dies on me.

Thanks

Mine did the same thing and it ended up being a vacuum leak off the back of the intake manifold.

Sounds like a plugged or restricted main jet. Take out the jets and ream them with a welding tip cleaner. You can get a set of cheep welding tip cleaners at just about any hardware store. also look down the carb barrel while pumping the throttle to see if the accelerator pump is working. you should see gas shooting into the carb barrel.

If you think your carb is the problem, and want to try out another carb before you buy one, I can loan you a recently rebuilt Edlebrock Performer 1406 for a few days.

I haven't found time to get out and pull the carburetor off yet to clean up the main jets to see if that is that will clear up the problem. We have a few house projects that we have been wanting to get done including redoing the kitchen. It is also fishing season so I have been up on the Kenai have a total of 99.5 LBS of Red Salmon. I get underway tomorrow and I will be gone for three weeks as soon as I get back I am pulling the carburetor off to take a look at it.

Thanks for the offer on lending me another Eldebrock akvalentine I will be back in touch when I get back to Homer.

Thanks again
Mike
